MyGeotab Version 11

MyGeotab Version 11

Overview of MyGeotab Version 11

We have some exciting news to share with you  from Geotab. Over the past few weeks, Geotab has released several updates in near sequence – version 9.0, 10.0, and 11.0 – that will greatly improve your user experience. These include some interface updates and new enhancements you have been waiting for. The goal is to have you – and all Geotab customers – on MyGeotab version 11.0 by May 14th

After the rollout of MyGeotab Version 11, Geotab will transition from quarterly to weekly deployment of bug fixes, backend updates, etc., and four week releases of new features and functionality. This pivot will simplify and optimize the MyGeotab and Geotab Drive platforms into one evolving but unified version. You’ll get new features faster and you can configure your needs and specifications by selecting which new features you want to enable.

The new approach ensures that you are always on the latest and greatest version of the Geotab platform. Here are some benefits you can expect:

    • One version of MyGeotab for all customers means more focus on innovation and product quality
    • You get new functionality – and value – faster:  features will now be launched when they are ready vs. waiting for next major release
    • Fewer product changes deployed at once: enhanced product stability and reliability, and new features can be turned on with a flag
    • Preview new features before they are released:  ability to sign up for regular previews of new features in MyPreview so you are consistently gaining value and insights
    • Quicker feedback loop and iteration: faster response to customer feedback for product changes and bug fixes.

Why is Geotab making this change

How will upgrade migrations be managed between now and through the path to MyGeotab Version 11?

Geotab is aiming to get all customers on MyGeotab Version 11 by May 14th, 2023. The reason for this accelerated timeline is to get to one version to deliver a better product and customer experience moving forward. If you are already on Version 10, you’ll have until mid May to upgrade to Version 11. If you are on an older release, you will be migrated through to MyGeotab Version 11 one version upgrade at a time to reach this milestone.

Depending on how many upgrade migrations you need to make, you might only be on a newer release for a week or two. We understand that for some of our customers this is much faster than normal. To ease the process, our customer-facing teams are all hands on deck to be able to support you and your Geotab Partner through the transition.

Why is Geotab doing incremental upgrades to databases to reach MyGeotab Version 11 versus a single upgrade to get there?

Geotab gave much consideration to how to approach getting all customers onto the same version to achieve this milestone and make this important shift in our product release strategy. They concluded that there is a higher degree of risk in skipping releases. Should an issue arise during the migration process, pushing all customers through a significant single version upgrade makes it more difficult to roll back major changes should they need to.

How do I know what version I am on?

To see what version you are on in MyGeotab, click on Administration > About. For example, the database below is running on Version 11.0. See below.

Will I need to manually update to the new versions?

The version upgrades through to Version 11 will automatically be rolled out to our customers during standard maintenance hours.

How will deployments and releases work after MyGeotab Version 11 migration is complete?

How can we submit feature requests and feedback?

The current feature request process is being phased out as of May 1st, 2023. What’s taking its place? Geotab is introducing the Feedback Hub, a new direct channel for customers and partners to submit ideas related to how they can improve their products – and your experiences with them.

The Feedback Hub gives you the opportunity to not only submit your feedback or ideas directly, but you can also view all submitted feedback, upvote, and comment to help drive up the priority of submissions. You can access the Feedback Hub on the Geotab Community site. Just a note that if you are not already a member, you must register to join the Community in order to be able to
submit ideas or feedback.

Who do we contact with questions or if we experience issues during our migration?

If you require assistance or have any inquiries during your migration, please follow your existing support pathway.

My Geotab v7 – What’s New?

My Geotab Version 7 is packed with enhancements like improved security, ESR ratings, extendable services, new routing features and much more!

My Geotab Password Security Changes

In version 7, My Geotab will no loger allow the use of a username, firstname, or last name in the password to improve security. Current passwords are not impacted, but with the next password change request the new rules will prevent using them in a new password.

Electrical System Rating (ESR)

The Electrical System Rating (ESR) is a rating that measures the status of a vehicle’s electrical system on a scale from 0 to 100. The ESR is calculated on a daily basis, and provides a common rating system for all vehicles, engines and fuel types in a friendly format that is easy for all users to understand. ESR is an analytical metric based on data that can be used to predict battery health, and subsequent point of failure. You can read more here about the predictive maintenance benefits of ESR, including how one Geotab customer used it to get the following results:

  • Reduced roadside calls and expenses by 12%
  • Reduced on-road battery replacements (premium-priced) by 26%
  • Reduced total battery replacement volume by 2.7%
  • Saved 9% on labor by reducing diagnostic and battery replacement labor

New My Geotab Version 7 Default Rule

The last release introduced truck specific road speed to the speed rules. In My Geotab Version 7 there is a new default rule for truck speed that is a one click option on the main rules page. If you have a mixed fleet, grouping your vehicles allows you to apply the truck speed limit rule to heavy trucks, and the normal speed limit to light duty vehicles.

New Routing Features In My Geotab

In My Geotab Version 7 the “Send to Vehicle” button has been moved to the main Routes page. Tools to create a route and send it are now in the same area making them more convenient to use. A shortcut to Routes is being added under Map in the main menu as well.

You can also start a new route by duplicating a previous one. We actually had a client request this feature just a few days before it was announced. It will be a real time saver especially for smaller fleets.

Planned vs Actual route displayed on the map has been visually enhanced so that variances are easier to spot. The black line represents the planned route and the purple line the actual route taken. To utilize these new features in Version7, you will need to enable feature preview.

Improved View of Assets in My Geotab Version 7

The Asset Edit page is out of feature preview and available to all users by default in My Geotab Version 7. For busy users looking for faster ways to manage their assets, the asset edit page provides a more compact and complete view of your assets. By consolidating important information into one page, navigation is reduced, so you can take action faster.

The tabs on the Asset Edit page include the following information:

  • Asset: Includes a quick summary of the asset, the current driver, how it’s being used, its current location, groups, fuel consumption and more.
  • Health: Reports on the health of the asset, including active faults, maintenance history, upcoming events, inspection logs and more.
  • Audio feedback: Audio feedback (previously called Driver feedback) now includes GOTALK settings, and other usability improvements that better display what options are available.
  • Extended services: No changes have been made.
  • Rate plan: No changes have been made.
  • Settings: Groups all telematics device settings under one tab, versus multiple tabs and More buttons.

Extendable Services

For clients with multiple locations or divisions on separate databases, or clients that wish to selectively share information with other Geotab clients, Extendable Services provides that option. With Extendable Services, secondary subscriptions can be shared with target users, at the rate plan available for participating OEMs. Requests to extend third-party services can be made from the Extendable Services tab on the Asset Edit page.

Extendable Services requests can be accepted, rejected, or deferred to provide time for consultation and better decision support. Just click the Remind me later button to defer the request until your next login, or at a time that works for you.

This is a paid Geotab service based on the service plan of Base, Pro or ProPlus. Fleetistics offers rollup reporting for the most commonly needed data in your MyFleetistics account. Navigate to Analytics & Reports>Roll-up Report to see if the data provided is sufficient for your needs. Requests can be made to Fleetistics for additional reports if enough customers would benefit.

MyGeotab Release 2101

MyGeotab Release 2101 Update

MyGeotab release 2101 includes a new and improved look and feel. Changes in colors, fonts and icons focus your attention on what is most important and impart information quickly. Many of the improvements are things we have been asking for, and we are especially excited to show you what is coming soon. It is a lot to take in, so we have used quite a few GIF images to tell the story. These updates should be rolled out toward the end of May 2021.

Some of the enhancements are available now to users who have feature preview turned on. To select the feature preview option, follow the instructions at this link (click here).

Expect to see design changes on these components.

  • HOS Logs and HOS Availability pages
  • Charging events
  • Updated logo and favicon to use accessible colors
  • Maintenance and Reminder Rule Add/Edit
  • Report pages
  • User options
  • Vehicle Edit page
  • User Edit page

New to Vehicles in Release 2101

Finally, users will be able to add vehicles without an associated device serial number. You can add vehicles as they are acquired and update with a device serial number when you are ready to install the devices. This allows you to organize in groups, add license plate info, and assign appropriate maintenance reminders in advance. You can also add assets that you may not need a tracking device for, but would like to do inspections or set maintenance reminders for.

To be able to sort based on this new functionality, three new statuses and icons will display on the Vehicles page.

  • Active with a tracking device
  • Active without a tracking device
  • Archived
New Vehicle Icons in Release 2101

Streamlined process for install records

Previously, Customers who employed Installers and used one of the installation websites had to navigate to a specific page to review new installation records and manually update the vehicle name, license plate and other information. Customers will now receive a prompt when there are new installation records, and can update the vehicle information using an Accept All button.

Device Data Streaming

With Data Streaming, Administrators can send share requests to partners they work closely with, and partners can subscribe to Data Streams that make sense for their business. Subscriptions are available on Base, Regulatory, Pro, and ProPlus rate plans, with easy billing that begins as soon as a share request is accepted. For more information on Data Streaming, stay tuned for Blog updates and training announcements. You can also email multistreaming@geotab.com.

New on the Map in MyGeotab Release 2101

Vehicle and Driver Label Options

Large fleets have wanted for a long time to be able to choose when vehicle names and driver names are displayed on the map to reduce clutter. Now you will be able to do just that. Easily add or remove the labels with a click.

New in Release 2101, Show Hide Labels on the Map

My Location Enhancement

If you used the MyLocation button in the past you may have wondered if it was working, as it only took you to the general area. In MyGeotab Release 2102 it will identify your actual location with a blue circle. This is a great tool to see where assets are in relation to where you are.

My Location

New Replay Feature Added to Map Options

This new feature allows you to replay trips for single or multiple vehicles adding visual insight to how the driver’s trip progressed. For example, you can focus on and replay parts of the trip there were delays or exception events to better understand what occured.

Route Replay in MyGeotab Release 2101

View Previous Trip & Current Position Together

You can now view the vehicles’ previous trip as well as the vehicles’ current position on the map. This feature adds context to the current location by helping users to understand the vehicles progress.

New Administrative Features in MyGeotab Release 2101

Emailed Reports to Individual Users

Sceduling reports to be sent to individual users a convenience we have long awaited. In MyGeotab Release 2101 you can still create a group and send to everyone in it, but now you can also choose an individual user to receive scheduled reports. This will be a real time saver for administrators.

Select AND or OR Logic in the Groups Filter In Feature Preview

Previously the OR function was the only available operator. Now, if you need to see just the tractors in your eastern branch, you will be able to select the AND function to refine your search.

AND OR Operators in MyGeotab Release 2101

Reprocess Data for Selected Rules Only

You can now select just the rules you want when requesting a reprocess of data. Previously, the system would evaluate all the rules in your database for the specified time period. Geotab heard our concerns that after a full reprocess of data, genuine exceptions are erased.

For example, an exception event is generated when a driver speeds in a construction zone. Then, later in the year â?? when the construction is completed â?? the speed limit reverts to the original posted road speed. In cases like this, when the data is reprocessed, some exception events are removed since the system now evaluates the rule against the current posted road speed. The ability to select specific rules when reprocessing data, preserves your data to avoid similar situations.

Reprocess Data Options in Release 2101

Inside Any Added to Event Types for Zone Rules In Feature Preview

The Inside Any event type generates a separate exception event for each zone when a driver drives through a cluster of zones â?? either overlapping or in close proximity to each other â?? with the same zone type. Previously a separate rule for each zone was required to achieve this result.

Set Truck Specific Speed Limits

On some roads there are different speed limits enforced for heavy duty trucks than for passenger vehicles. This new feature allows fleet managers to apply truck-specific speed limits based on posted road speeds for trucks.

In addition, adding truck speed limits to a group rather than on a vehicle-by-vehicle basis saves you time and automatically applies the rule to any fleet vehicles added at a later time. You can set up truck-specific speed limits using the rules page. Under Conditions, click the Add speed limit button then toggle Truck speed limit to Yes.

Speeding exception reports will use truck-specific speed limits for vehicles in groups that have opted to use this. When exceptions are calculated against truck-specific speed limits, the application indicates the maximum truck speed limit for your convenience.

Where there is a custom speed limit for trucks on a specific road segment, the map can be updated as well. Click the road segment on the map to view the general posted speed limit (left) and the truck-specific speed limit (right). To update either speed limit, select Update posted road speed from the list.

For each maintenance reminder, you can also view the following details: maintenance type, repeat frequency and number of vehicles. To access the list of scheduled maintenance reminders, go to Engine & Maintenance > Maintenance > Reminder Setup from the main menu. From there select Add Reminder to quickly and easily add new reminders and assign vehicles to them.

You will now be able to import your existing maintenance records into MyGeotab to have everything in one place. Keep a complete history of vehicle maintenance in one convenient location. Geotab will provide a downloadable Excel template. Just follow the instructions provided, and upload your records using the Bulk Import tool.

Phones Down, Eyes Up was initiated in honor of Brandon Walli. Sadly, Brandon lost his life at the age of 23 while crossing the road in 2016. It was thought that he had been texting and walking at the time. Brandon’s father, Tom Walli, and Geotab are hosting this free concert and informational event to shed light on managing device distraction in everyday life.

Phones Down Eyes Up Virtual Concert

It’s a Global Event

At this year’s Phones Down Eyes Up Benefit Concert, Geotab is switching things up by going virtual. Viewers from around the world will join together for a fun-filled evening with musical performances made by Geotab’s employees. The virtual concert will help to continue Geotab’s efforts to raise awareness surrounding the dangers of distracted driving and the responsibility we all have in helping to reduce traffic and pedestrian-related accidents.

Join viewers from around the world and enjoy live music while supporting a great cause!. The virtual concert will continue the company’s efforts to raise awareness surrounding the dangers of distracted driving and the responsibility we all have in helping to reduce traffic and pedestrian-related accidents.

For every person that watches the virtual benefit concert, Geotab will donate $5 to Brake, a registered charity with various global initiatives that strive to promote road safety, sustainable transport, and supporting victims of road crashes.

We hope to “see” you at the Phones Down Eyes Up global virtual concert!

Geotab Drive release 2004 – What’s New?

Ready for what’s new in Geotab Drive release 2004? To see all of the coming Geotab Drive updates vist Geotab’s blog. Here are the highlights:

Geotab Drive

Starting and Ending Odometer

In Compliance Print view on the Drive App, the system now automatically populates the starting and ending odometer fields for the vehicles used by the Driver.

Updated DVIR and DVIR attestations in Geotab Drive release 2004

New DVIR attestations are available for jurisdictions that require a specific declaration. Primarily, this is to assure compliance for our Canadian clients. Also, new DVIR fields address Canadian DVIR requirements.

Updated Clock-in/Clock-out feature

Custom code required for the Clock-in/Clock-out feature has been removed. Instead, the Clock-in/Clock-out feature is now available when Feature Preview is enabled.

Added Media Clearances to default Drive App clearance

With the new capabilities to add media files to DVIR records, additional clearances have been added to the default Drive App security user type. This allows drivers by default to administer and view media files.

Updated HOS Logs assignment

In MyGeotab, administrators can now select the correct driver using the drop down menu on the HOS Logs page. If the selected driver is not indicated as a co-driver on the HOS log, the system ignores the logs edited for the original driver and suggests new logs for the selected driver. Correcting availability for both drivers in a single edit in Geotab Drive release 2004, simplifies admin log corrections. The suggested logs for the new driver are in a requested state.

Messaging is out of Feature Preview

After several updates, the Messages feature is now out of Feature Preview. As announced in the previous release, the Messages feature has been updated.

In Geotab Drive release 2004, easily stay connected with your drivers using the new consolidated messaging feature. Threaded views provide conversation-style messages with simple to use input controls such as adding links and canned replies. Messages can be sent to devices for anyone driving the vehicle to see, or directly to users for private two-way communication. Unread messages display in tab titles for easy detection, or as shortcuts under Notifications on the main title bar. Messages can be searched using date and display filters for accurate and friendly searches.

As seen in the images below, there are now designated sections for messages to the vehicle and messages to the logged-in user. In the section for user messages, the dispatch can privately communicate between the drivers. Drivers can now communicate without first selecting a vehicle, as well as message the dispatch through the vehicle messages section or by clicking the Message Dispatch button.
